Thongtakian Beach is a small cove tucked between the two famous beaches of Chaweng and Lamai. As with Chaweng and Lamai, Thongtakian has fine white sand and crystal clear water. The sea gets deep gradually in Thongtakian and so it is a good beach for families. There are corals just off the coast that are good for snorkeling. Fish also gather at the rocks at either end of the beach.
Despite its location between the two main tourist hubs in Koh Samui, Thongtakian bay area is very quiet. There are no beach hawkers and no bars or clubs playing loud music. There are few shops and other facilities in Thongtakian but Lamai beach is only 5 minutes away. It is very easy to flag down a songthaew (pick up truck service that runs like a bus and only costs a few Thai Baht). Also not far away is Tesco Lotus where you can buy just about anything!
Thongtakian has a few good value mid-range resorts on the beach. These resorts have beachfront restaurants that make up all the nightlife on Thongtakian. If you want more entertainment it is a short taxi ride to either Lamai or Chaweng.
Thongtakian Beach is also sometimes referred to as 'Silver Beach'.
