Phangka

Phangka is a beach located in the south-west of Koh Samui. Phangka is on the peninsula between Thong Tanote to the south and Taling Ngam to the north. Phangka Beach is a quiet and tranquil spot ideal for honeymooners and families. Phangka is also sometimes referred to as 'Emerald Bay' on account of the sea color. The sea at Phangka gets deep slowly and so is good for children who want to paddle. In the evening there is an impressive sunset to enjoy. Some claim the sunset at Phangka is the best in Koh Samui.

For those interested in seeing marine life, it is a short boat ride out to the two small islands of Koh Mudsum and Koh Tan. Around these two small islands are corals with a plethora of small fish that is great for snorkeling. For those interested in Thai architecture there is a beautiful temple near the beach called Wat Phangka.

There is a small fishing village in the nearby area called Bang Kao. The south-west corner is one of the least touched parts of Koh Samui. Here you can find traditional Chinese wooden shops, fishermen mending their nets and locals eating delicious seafood on the beach. It is a great area for those more interested in Thai culture than in discos and night clubs.

There are a couple of cheap local restaurants in Phangka and some shops that sell basic necessities. The beach has some excellent mid-range resorts to choose from. If you want to get around it is a good idea to rent a bike or car.
