Nathon

Nathon is the administative capital of Koh Samui. It is a port town on the west coast. The town of Nathon is fairly big and has some large markets and shopping areas. Whereas the big supermarkets such as Big C and Tesco Lotus are the best places to go if you are self-catering, Nathon is the place to go to buy souvenirs and street goods. There are a number of banks, ATM machines and other amenities. It is a 20 minute walk from the ferry pier to the Immigration Office where visas can be renewed.

There are a few good cheap cafes, bars and restaurants in Nathon. The atmosphere of the town remains very Thai and makes a good counterpoint to the feeling of Chaweng. There are a few traditional Chinese wooden shops and a colorful Chinese temple to explore in Nathon.

Nathon has a number of ferries going to Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Surrathani and Chumphon on the mainland. The car ferry docks at Lipa Noi, a few kilometers south of Nathon.

There isn't a tourist beach at Nathon and so few people stay in the town. The hotels and guest houses are mainly nearly the port. The main reason to stay in Nathon would be to catch an early morning boat. At present only Grand Sea View Resotel is available for booking through the r24.org booking engine.
